The story of Louis and Simba, two stray cats.
Here's a little story about, we just called them Louis and Simba.
The sun is shining brightly and it is a hot and very humid summer day in Greece, Rhodes.
Louis and Simba are two of many stray cats. We immediately noticed the two of them when we were out on the streets of Lindos looking for stray dogs and cats.
For whatever reason, Louis could no longer walk properly. We suspect that Louis was mistreated. Simba was lying right next to him and looked very similar.
We immediately provided them with the bare necessities.
Our team was able to recruit volunteers on site who helped us get food and water. Then we went to the vet. Luckily, Louis was also successfully treated. The highlight for us was that, thanks to our help and that of the loving helpers on site, both cats were able to be placed with a very caring family . The local animal welfare workers, who have a big heart for cats and dogs in particular, often lack the money needed to really help cats. We were very happy to take on this task!
Ready for our new adventure?
Here comes the story of Shila, an abused dog from Turkey.
Shila's story touched us particularly. Anyone who has ever been to beautiful Turkey, or more precisely to the Bay of Bodrum, can see them everywhere: stray dogs and cats as far as the eye can see.
What struck us as particularly positive at first was that the dogs and cats that live on the streets are generally treated with great care. But here too, people have a big heart for animals but not the money to really help. Once again equipped with the most important items, we set off from the airport straight into the city.
And it didn't take long before we found this sweet lady who desperately needed our help. We named her Shila.
Shila was really something special. But one thing we noticed about her: she was limping and was totally emaciated.
With our help, we immediately took Shila to the vet. It turned out that Shila had suffered a broken joint due to blunt force trauma. This made us very sad and the first tears flowed...
Of course, we covered the costs of treatment and medication.
After Shila had been properly pampered, we sat together one evening and thought about how Shila's life would continue. We all agreed: we couldn't and didn't want to just let Shila go back on the street. This dog needs a loving family.
Unfortunately, no one was willing to take a female dog into their family permanently, so we made the impossible possible: We launched a worldwide appeal:
Who is willing to give Shila a loving home?
But first, Shila got a temporary home in a very caring dog shelter.
The day finally arrived and we were very excited! Would Shila even accept a dog collar? How would Shila cope in the new accommodation? Hildegard - a German emigrant - who we were able to win over immediately for our idea of placing Shila in a temporary and professional dog facility helped us to make the necessary contacts. Shila was now going to Antalya, which is further away.
The impossible happened: An experienced and loving family in the Netherlands got in touch and was actually willing to take Shila in. Several discussions took place and finally we agreed: a new life would begin for Shila!
But until that happened, Shila had to be in quarantine for several weeks. Treatments, vaccinations and the necessary papers were absolutely necessary to bring Shila to Europe. We covered the necessary costs, as well as the care until Shila could travel to the Netherlands.
Today Shila lives a very happy life in the Netherlands with three other dogs. We are so happy that we were able to give Shila a new home.
These are two of many stories. We will continue to support animals in need worldwide, including here in Germany.
Our next trip is to Romania. We will continue to report on the exciting impressions we were able to gain there. Stay tuned and keep coming back.
